Want to learn jQuery Mobile? In Munich or Melbourne? Book now!

by kai on 13/10/2012

This is just a quick reminder that I'm teaching a full-day jQuery Mobile workshop on two occasions in October. For both session there are still tickets available, at the same time both have enough attendees to def. go ahead and happen! The first one is next week, October 17 in Munich. It's part of CFCamp's CFAcademy and can be booked on the CFAcademy site. This session will be held in German…

2DDU (2 developers down under) podcast episode 25: Kris Korsmo and IDEs

by kai on 11/09/2012

This is just a quick note to let everyone know that Mark and I have recorded and published episode 25 of the "2 developers down under" - 2DDU - podcast the other day.

We've been talking to Kris Korsmo about IDEs. Kris is another of our cf.Objective(ANZ) speakers and he's got a web development career with a bit of a twist. But to find out more about that you actually have to listen to the podcast :-)

Why I might not come to CFCamp :-(

by kai on 10/09/2012

About 1 month ago, I posted about CFCamp in Germany. Along with praising the efforts of Michi Hnat, the main organiser of CFCamp, I also said that I was going to attend, present at CFCamp and run workshops during the event's CFAcademy. One might wonder why I'm now considering not going. Basically it comes down to a combination of two things: The lack of bookings for CFAcademy workshops My…

CFML - alive and kicking at CFCamp and CFAcademy in Germany

by kai on 06/08/2012

Quite often one is told that ColdFusion is dead, old and proprietary. That's actually not quite true even though I can see where people are coming from - ColdFusion doesn't seem to be as posh and fancy as the poster children of web development such as Rails and Node. Fair enough. However, there's more to CFML than just only Adobe ColdFusion. A lot of people don't even know that there are two well…

Direct Download Links for (older versions of) Adobe ColdFusion and others

by kai on 06/08/2012

I just figured it'd be a good idea to create a quick blog post about how to find and download older versions of Adobe software. I got inspired by Robin Hilliard asking for a Solaris installer for ColdFusion 8 the other day on the cfaussie mailing list. He got lucky and Richard Turner-Jones from Adobe AU managed to get him an installer from an internal Adobe server, but what could average Joe…

CFML update for IntelliJ IDEA 11

by kai on 01/01/2012

The awesome people at Jetbrains (in particular Kirill is to be mentioned here) have made an BER (bleeding edge release) update of the CFML plugin in IntelliJ IDEA 11 available. In case you didn't know - IntelliJ IDEA is an excellent IDE, quite heavily used by Java and Groovy developers. IntelliJ IDEA has a CFML plugin for a few versions now and it got quite a few enhancements with the recent…

ColdFusion Builder 2 Hot fix - be aware that you need a JRE

by kai on 01/01/2012

This was sitting in my inbox for quite a while.  When the ColdFusion team released hot fix 1 for ColdFusion Builder 2, some people reported problems applying the hotfix ending up with an error message claiming that there was no Java Runtime Environment installed. At first glance, it might make you wonder because if you're about to apply a ColdFusion Builder 2 hot fix, one would expect ColdFusion…

ColdFusion "null, null" errors - CFInterface another possible reason

by kai on 24/12/2011

Just recently I was hunting a "null, null" error in a large ColdFusion application. It started occurring all of a sudden under decent load and it was unfortunately rather hard to reproduce. Some basics: If you're getting a "null, null" error in ColdFusion (and yes, this still does occur in ColdFusion 8 and 9 occasionally, even though there was a certain known issue in CFMX 6/6.1 that was fixed…

cf.Objective(ANZ) 2010 is over - here comes cf.Objective(US) 2011

by kai on 21/11/2010

The title of this post says it all - cf.Objective(ANZ) 2010 in Melbourne is over and I'd like to take a moment to state that it was an awesome conference, thx to everyone involved: Mark, Justin, AJ, Darren and last but not least our fabulous event manager Julie Allen for putting this together. It's been a pleasure being on the committee again and working on creating an agenda of sessions that…

30 days of me - day 6

by kai on 14/09/2010

Today's post is about my favourite super hero. It's actually Cold Fusion:

Why? He's helpful, rapid and just super. If you want to learn more about him (and also Flash, Flex and the "special" friendship between Breeze and Dreamweaver) watch the following awesome Nectarine animations:
