Venn diagrams

by kai on 15/06/2007

I had to do pretty extensive CF list modifications in one of my projects the other day. To do that, I used the good old Venn diagram metaphor to work with sets and AND, OR, NOT operators - made my life much easier. Why I'm writing this: while dealing with it, I remembered back to primary school when we were introduced to basic Venn diagrams (for 7 or 8 year olds...) - using a plastic template to…

Adobe AIR derby

by kai on 15/06/2007

Andrew Spaulding just pointed me to this: The Adobe AIR derby is now available world-wide, not just in the US. Well, not 100% sure about world-wide, but at least it's def. available in Australia and New Zealand :) Well done Adobe!

Flickr - this is wrong

by kai on 15/06/2007

I haven't posted for quite a while - but the following annoys me that much, that I have to tell the world about it. Flickr - our wonderful world-spanning web 2.0 image gallery has introduced content filtering recently. Well done, I'm a big fan of that idea. User are supposed to classify their images into one of three categories, "restricted" is the tightest of those. As I said, that's fine. This…

Ajax/Flex Data Loading Benchmark

by kai on 03/05/2007

Just one brief pointer to a blog post you should NOT miss. James Ward has published a benchmark application comparing different ways of loading data into Rich Client Applications. I've already seen this application in its very early stages a while ago, so I'm even more happy that James published it now! Great work!

Trip report and pics

by kai on 01/05/2007

Just a brief one as I'm pretty busy this week. I'm back in NZ (finally) after 10 days of travelling around in Asia and doing a bunch of other client work from the hotel, plane, airport lounge etc :). I've been to Korea first to attend Adobe's Flex Community Leader summit, which was an excellent event organised by Sumi, John, Craig and the Korean Adobe team. They've pulled together a lot of people…

Mail from Japan

by kai on 01/05/2007

Earlier this week I've got a courier delivery from Japan. You might wonder what that could have been - and actually it was an issue of the Japanese "des" magazine. When being in Korea the other week, I was catching up with Ken and he told me that he ages ago took a photo of me at a MAX conference and that it was published in this magazine :)

And Ken, thx so much for shipping it over, awesome mate!

"Pathetic"...

by kai on 30/04/2007

...was the title of an email I've just received from a friend in Germany. It contained exactly one link, uncommented: http://news.yahoo.com/s/infoworld/20070427/tc_infoworld/88119 From my point of view, this is a pretty interesting approach and an obvious response to Adobe's announcement to open-source parts of Flex. If only, this creates an interesting competition which is always good to push…
