A look into onApplicationStart (ColdFusion)

by kai on 20/01/2010

Well, most of you would know that the onApplicationStart() method in ColdFusion's Application.cfc is a single-threaded method that's being executed by ColdFusion after the start of the application. The reason for an application having the necessity to start could for instance be that CF or the underlying machine has been restarted or that the application had run into its timeout. Recently while…

OS X quick look for ColdFusion

by kai on 19/01/2010

I haven't blogged for ages - but that's not the point of this post. I recently had to quickly glance over a whole lot of legacy CF files and I didn't want to have to open each individual file in my preferred IDE. OS X supports quick look by hitting the space bar in finder for a lot of file types, ColdFusion wasn't supported so far. The other day then I found a quick look plugin named qlcolorcode…

CF 8.0.1: Deleting a file after attaching it to an email

by kai on 13/11/2008

There's a tiny, little new feature in CF 8 Updater 1 that I bet not many people even know about - I didn't until yesterday. It came up during a discussion on cfaussie about attaching files to outgoing emails just the other day and it basically solves the problem of deleting a file after it having been sent as an email attachment. Just add a remove="true" attribute to your CFMAILPARAM tag used to…

Internationalisation with CF... - slides

by kai on 01/07/2008

During the last few weeks, I've presented a session titled "Internationalisation with CF, Java and Flex" at various conferences and meetings. To name those: Scotch on the Rocks, webDU and the June user group meeting of the ColdFusion user group Germany. The session has changed a bit from SOTR to webDU to the CFUG session and the slides uploaded here are the webDU version. Don't expect hardcore CF…

A few more thoughts on Railo going OS

by kai on 05/06/2008

The Railo keynote has started and I'll take a few minutes to share a few thoughts on the open sourcing of Railo on JBoss.org. Looking back a few months when Open BlueDragon was born, quite a few people stated their excitement that a "grown-up" CFML engine went open source. A rather large amount of people stated that it was some sort of a last effort to keep BD alive due to lacking sales etc.…

Breaking news: Railo to open source... Railo!!!!

by kai on 05/06/2008

In about 5 minutes, the Swiss company Railo is going to announce the open-sourcing of their alternative ColdFusion/CFML engine Railo. Hang on, one might think - didn't we have that just a few months ago with Open BlueDragon? Sort of, but this time the impact of the anouncement might be significantly different. The reason is, that Railo is going to open source their engine together with the very…

The other day someone asked me...

by kai on 24/03/2008

...about my opinion on the open-sourcing of Blue Dragon that has been announced a few weeks ago. To be honest: I do like it and I truely and honestly hope that they will manage to form a community around the open-source version of their product. Lots of people discussed the topic and it's meaningfulness for Adobe, ColdFusion, Blue Dragon, the web, the community and the whole world. Some of them…

Currently it appears is a lot of ColdFusion work available up in Auckland. A friend of mine, Liam Donaldson, is looking for a developer to work on his site bookabach.co.nz which has just recently been acquired by the AA - The job ad is stiill online. Liam is a great guy to work with, if you're in Auckland and looking for a new CF challenge, I'd strongly recommend to have a chat to him. Also, the…

Another social network - sigh - need a third screen to always keep those types of apps/websites opened :)

Coldfusioncommunity.org is a bit different though because it's very tailored to people who actually work with CF. Have a look and give it a try, I'm obviously in there as well: http://www.coldfusioncommunity.org/profile/KaiKoenig
