Why would anyone travel from New Zealand to Kansas City, MO? D2WC!

by kai on 08/01/2012

The short answer is: for D2WC 2012. Let me briefly explain: D2WC is a conference about and for designers, developers, hybrid and the famous designer-developer workflow. It will go into its third iteration in 2012 and after Dee Sadler was originally trying to get me involved with the event already in 2010, I finally went in 2011 and had a great time over there (you can find my 2011 talk on…

Creative Suite CS 5.5 doesn't activate?

by kai on 19/12/2011

Yes, I know - this is the first post in this blog since ... more than a year. Oups! Demanded by Terry Ryan, this is a blog post about a terrible Adobe support experience and the solution to a problem that happened to me a few week ago (Well, Terry only asked me to blog the solution - but I think it's fair to also tell the support story here) All of a sudden my Creative Suite CS 5.5 license on my…

Yes, you're absolutely right. cf.Objective(ANZ) is still over and next next big thing for everyone involved with web and (but not only) the Adobe platform in Australia and New Zealand is webDU in Sydney. cf.Objective(ANZ) 2010 is over - here comes cf.Objective(US) 2011

by kai on 21/11/2010

The title of this post says it all - cf.Objective(ANZ) 2010 in Melbourne is over and I'd like to take a moment to state that it was an awesome conference, thx to everyone involved: Mark, Justin, AJ, Darren and last but not least our fabulous event manager Julie Allen for putting this together. It's been a pleasure being on the committee again and working on creating an agenda of sessions that…

Some thoughts on Java, OS X, Eclipse and others

by kai on 26/10/2010

Somewhere deeply hidden in the release notes of the recent Java for Mac OS X update, our friends from Apple have announced that they deprecated the Java runtime for Mac OS X and that "developers should not rely on the Apple-supplied Java runtime being present in future versions of Mac OS X". Read that as: Mac OS X 10.7 won't have Java (by Apple), maybe we're lucky and get the 10.6 update 3 thrown…

30 days of me – days 12 to 20

by kai on 26/10/2010

Ok, as everyone was able to see, my participation in "30 days of me" has somewhat stalled. Here are days 12 to 20 - just for the sake of getting a bit further towards completion...:) Day 12- How you found out about Blogger and why you made one This doesn't quite apply, but anyway. This blog started on Moveable Type in 2003, a few months later it was converted to be a mixture of MT code with…

30 days of me - a delayed day 10

by kai on 19/09/2010

Songs you listen to when you are Happy, Sad, Bored, Hyped, Mad - this is easy:

Some from the "Happy" playlist:

"Who's that girl" - Madonna
"Catch me" - Bandits
"51st state" - New Model Army

There's also a "Dark" playlist:

"Weak" - Skunk Anansie
"Hate this and I'll love you" - Muse
"Weeping willow" - The Verve

And also a "Work mood" one, which is based on "Blue Sky Mine" by Midnight Oil and then derived from Genius.

30 days of me - day 9

by kai on 17/09/2010

Another late one - I really need to prepare a few more for next week in advance during the weekend, I suppose.

Today's topic is "Something I'm proud of in the past few days"... Probably the thing that comes to mind was pulling off Flash Platform Camp for the second time now in 2010 about two weeks ago together with Diane and Ross. Other than that in the last few days and weeks - lots of business as usual - as boring as it might sound :-)

Results of the NZ mobile carrier Friday challenge

by kai on 17/09/2010

This morning I posted a "Friday challenge for Vodafone NZ, Telecom NZ and 2degree Mobile". The idea was for the three large mobile networks in NZ to come up with a response to a typical scenario of a mobile device user looking for a good and reasonably priced plan/package structure. Everyone had time until 5:30 pm today (with a potential extension of 15 minutes or so because the server had an…
